Early Childhood Educator Hiring

Roots Daycare is looking for a full-time or part time Early Childhood Educator starting October 2020.


  • Ensures all programs provide quality care, service and support to the participants and their families.
  • Understands and complies with provincial, municipal regulations.
  • Plans and implements a consistent curriculum based on How Does learning happen approach.
  • Completes required documentation of children’s development and interactions. Attends required curriculum training and all other relevant professional development opportunities necessary for the position.
  • Adheres to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provides required adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes.
  • Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • RECE -Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent training
  • Must be registered and a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members and staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours.
  • All staff working with children are required under the Child Care and Early Year’s Act to have a valid standard first aid certification including infant and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) prior to the first day of work.
  • Up-to-date immunization record
  • Russian language is an asset

  • Assists in establishing and maintaining a safe, warm and caring environment in which a high quality child care program can operate.

Teacher’s Assistant (Early Childhood Assistant) Hiring

Roots Daycare is looking for a warm, nurturing and educated Teacher’s Assistant (Early Childhood Assistant)

The ideal candidate will work in a dynamic, collaborative, team environment. They have to be flexible and organized; possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; and the ability to effectively interact with young children, parents, teachers, and team members.

Job Duties:

  • Support ECE teachers in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children
  • Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs, assisting teachers preparing daily activities
  • Always observe and monitor children
  • Assist with lunch/snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
  • Assist with proper eating, dressing and toilet routines
  • Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping duties
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment
  • Ability to multi-task and follow classroom routines and schedules
  • Must have First aid/CPR, Police Reference Check and all required immunizations and TB testing

Work Conditions:

  • Perform all physical aspects of the position, including frequently moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Perform all required cleaning, disinfecting duties of all play materials, equipment etc
  • Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/ dangerous situations.
  • May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as a part of the childcare environment.
